Support new vehicles – Introduction of IMI

To service modules in newer vehicles (released in 2025 or later) you will need the xMB-9640 Hyundai Module Balancer with IMI-Box and IMI-Cables.

New Cables for newer modules will only be available on the IMI Base.

What is IMI?

IMI-2404

IMI stands for “Intelligent Module Interface”; this reflects to the IMI-2404 Box; a box that provides communication from the module to the xMB-9640 in a better way than the current Interface Boxes.

This has clear advantages, such as:

  • Les Boxes – Only 1 IMI-Box is needed instead of multiple Interface Boxes
  • Less Cables – Less cables needed; no separate temperature cables are needed and less IMI-Cables
  • Speed – IMI-based setup can balance up to 25% faster
  • Future Proof – Ability to read up to 24 cells, and up to 4 temperature sensors ensuring compatibility for future Hyundai modules.
  • Protection – The IMI Box checks and is able to prevent live voltages potentially damaging the xMB, cables and modules.
  • Wi-Fi / OTA – Within the Software Update Rev O that includes the Full IMI-Support, Wi-Fi and OTA Updates are also enabled.

How will my cable setup look like?

IMI-Cables can be directly connected between the module and the IMI-Box. No additional temperature cable is needed. Also, there is no need to work with multiple Interface Boxes (1 Box for all).

The HV connections remain the same.

What do I need to do?

In order to use the IMI-Box and IMI-Cables, you’ll need an xMB-9640 that is capable of working with IMI. This means, depending on your situation:
